A Minnesota-based cannabis grower recently announced the creation of a new medical marijuana strain said to have the highest CBD (cannabidiol) content yet.
Minnesota Medical Solutions, or MinnMed, has named the new strain Katelyn Faith after an 8 year-old Minnesota girl who had suffered from a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder known as Battens Disease. “This is likely the most CBD-rich strain in the world, though it’s difficult to know for sure because testing is not a rigorous and transparent as it should be,” MinnMed CEO Dr. Kyle Kingsley told the West Central Tribune.
About Katelyn Faith
Little is known about the new strain, which is said to produce a 34:1 CBD to THC ratio. MinnMed has not said what strains were used to create the new cross but they have made it clear that it won’t leave Minnesota, a state which has arguably the most restricted medical marijuana program in the country. Though ratios closer to 1:1 are more common in CBD-rich strains, a few strains, such as ACDC and Charlotte’s Web, typically express a cannabinoid profile of around 20:1. According to Dr. Kingsley this super-high ratio will allow them to reduce costs, perhaps as much as 10% next year.
